The bell ringers of St Edmundsbury Cathedral celebrated the arrival of their 13th bell today.

The bell has been dedicated to Neil Collings, former dean of St Edsmundsbury Cathedral, who died in 2010.

It was hoisted into position in the Norman Tower at 1pm.

The bell is the final one to be installed in a project to expand the bell set from 10 to 13 bells and offer greater versatility for the ringers.

Tower Captain, Rowan Wilson, said: “We are delighted that the final bell - the flat 6th- is ready to be installed. Thanks to the fund-raising efforts of local ringers we are now able to complete our bell augmentation project.”

The original 10 bells date back to 1785, the final three have been installed since 2012.
