A new bar has been granted licensing permission to open in St Johns Street in Bury St Edmunds.

Bar Milan will open from 4pm to 1am Tuesdays to Saturdays. The application was by Coady L-Rhys and Thomas Anthony McKenna operating Cita Italia Ltd.

They say it will be a small bar for up to 45 people and will serve buffet style food, alcohol, and play music.

Bury Town Council was the only objector. It said its opening hours, which include 4am on New Year’s Eve, would ‘Increase the likelihood and frequency’ of vandalism, littering, noise and anti-social behaviour.

But St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s licensing committee approved the application earlier today (3).
