Liz Truss, Secretary of State for International Trade, was in Thetford last week to open a new lighting assembly plant at Fotolec Technologies Ltd.

The company in Baird Way, which makes shatter proof lamps, has invested £75,000 in the new assembly line for its LED lighting systems which it began producing six months ago under the GG Lighting Solutions division.

The new line is expected to deliver new growth for the company which was established in 1976 by the Payne family and which now has a £5.5million turnover.

The MP for South West Norfolk said: “Fotolec Technologies Ltd is an exciting business being recognised overseas for its quality as well as being able to manufacture products more competitively than other countries.

“With a developing export market to the USA, the Great British brand is well and truly recognised in Fotolec’s products and, as sales overseas account for more than 30 per cent of their business, I look forward to seeing how this enterprising business grows over the coming years.”

Fotolec owner and managing director, Chris Payne, said of the post Brexit situation: “We’ve been cultivating the export market since 2005. Business people just want to carry on their business. People want to transact and do what they can to become a better product. Politics doesn’t come into it.”

The company has been cultivating its export market since 2005 and trades with Germany, Poland, Benelux, France, Peru and the USA.

It employs 30 people and expects to increase its workforce in the next 12 to 24 months.

It offers a ‘turnkey’ solution to customers fromaudit of a company’s lighting to designing and installing new systems with at least 80 per cent energy savings.

It has just won a £45,000 project.
