A new free school for pupils who are permanently excluded from mainstream education, find it a struggle or are school refusers has been launched..
The Thetford Alternative Provision Free School opened last week with 19 pupils, aged 11 to 16, focusing on practical subjects as well as English, maths and science.
With eight full time and three part time staff, the school will be based at the Bidwell Centre, in Two Mile Bottom, until Christmas.
It will then move into a refurbished building on the former Thomas Paine Sixth Form site, in Staniforth Road.
Speaking on the first day, headteacher Nico Dobben said: “It was fantastic. We felt it couldn’t have gone better and it lived up to our expectations.
“We knew the kids could do it and they did.”
