Nearly 1,000 residents have given their views on a council’s raft of options to cut £1.5 million from its next budget.

About 988 people responded to St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s 2015/2016 budget consultation online and via post.

Council bosses say the results will help decide the 2015/16 budget.

Options in the consultation included cuts to the information centre at Bury St Edmunds bus station such as reducing the opening hours, removing staff and offering the building to a business or community group to provide a service and charging for the toilets.

Cllr John Griffiths, leader of the council, said: “We have been very open on the challenges we face, no decisions have been taken, and the views and suggestions put forward will now be fully considered as we move forward to decide how our budget requirements may be best addressed.”
