Children enjoyed a fantasy trip into the wonderful world of Narnia when parts of Suffolk Owl Sanctuary were transformed into the magical world of C S Lewis’s tale.
Children entered through the wardrobe doors into a Narnia style tunnel to meet Father Christmas while Mrs Tumnus and Mrs Beaver made an appearance alongside reindeer and a giant lion’s head depicting Aslan.
Staff member Dean Winham created Aslan and the polar bears pulling Santa’s sleigh, using wire and paper maché. Both were greatly admired by the sanctuary’s young visitors.
This is the second year that Suffolk Owl Sanctuary has put on its Christmas with the Owls event offering free admission to the sanctuary which has 84 owls and birds of prey in its care as well as its very popular Meerkats and red squirrels.
All the staff got dressed in costume to fit the mood and, while there were queues at times to see Santa, there was hot chococlate and mince pies to keep everyone happy,
The aim of the festive event is to raise awareness about the sanctuary which provides care and rehabilitation for owls as well as flying displays and falconry training courses.
