Musicians prepare for Bury St Edmunds finals of West Suffolk Young Musician of the Year and West Suffolk Young Jazz Musician
The final of this year’s West Suffolk Young Musician 2015 will be staged on July 6 at The Apex when young talented musicians will battle it out for the title.
Th finalists in the brass, piano, voice, strings and woodwind classes will perform programmes of their choice and be judged by a panel of three professional musicians.
The newly launched West Suffolk Young Jazz Musician Finalists’ Concert will follow on July 17 at The Hunter Club, home to regular live jazz events.
Each of the five jazz musicians will perform a short set on either piano, guitar or alto saxophone accompanied by the Chris Ingham Trio.
Each event promises to be an opportunity to hear first class music performed by our most talented young performers.
Saxophonist Katy Rochford, last year’s winner of the West Suffolk Young Musician of the Year, will return as guest soloist for the July 6 final while West Suffolk Young Musician 2011 Harry Green will make a guest appearance at the Jazz final.
Judging the Jazz final will be Chris Ingham and the Trio joined by nationally acclaimed saxophonist Alan Barnes.
Winners will receive vouchers from John Balaam Music and finalists vouchers from Music Sales Group.

We are thrilled to see so many talented young musicians keen to participate in the competition. ”It is particularly heartening to see a strong level of support for the new jazz competition too.
