ELIZABETH Truss, MP for South West Norfolk, has pledged her support to a committee working to reopen their village pub.
Ms Truss spoke at a meeting, attended by more than 150 people, outside the boarded up Fox Inn, in Garboldisham,
She said: “I think the turnout tonight is absolutely fantastic, it shows what level of support there is for a local pub and how people want to see action.”
Villagers have been battling to reopen the pub, owned by the Wellington Pub Company, for five years and met on Friday to decide a course of action.
They would like to purchase the grade II listed building.
Cllr William Nunn, leader of Breckland Council, said they had the support of the council, which he has directed to look into the possibility of a compulsory purchase order.
Janet Hance, chairman of The Fox committee, said: “It’s a help to have Liz Truss support us and help us in whatever we can do next.”
The Wellington Pub Company was invited to attend the meeting but did not.
