YOU might say Ray Rowson is a model employee.
Ray, a 100th Civil Engineer Squadron plumber at RAF Mildenhall, has built a scale replica of the base’s Building 550.
Building 550 was from RAF Mildenhall’s outset during the Second World War and it took Ray, 57, a year to recreate its original look.
“I’m very interested in World War II and am a very nostalgic person.
“I came across a book in the Mildenhall Museum which showed RAF Mildenhall as it was back in the 1930s and it had some good aerial photos in it,” he said.
Ray’s goal was to build all of the original 43 buildings that were on base in 1943, with Building 550 - a large aircraft hangar - the first on his list.
But after taking time out to put in valuable research, he decided against it: “I realised there was no way I could do the whole base.”
