Suffolk Highways confirms extension of temporary traffic lights above The Bell Hotel in Mildenhall

Temporary traffic lights that have frustrated Mildenhall motorists for more than eight months are set to continue for longer than originally planned.

Construction above The Bell Hotel in High Street has been ongoing since October 4, last year and involves a large amount of scaffolding.

Suffolk Highways had said it is set to be finished by July 10 but the planned end date has been pushed back to July 26.

Nicola Pollard, who lives in Mildenhall, said: “They have been so disruptive, especially with all the road works in the local area with the electrical improvements and the five-way traffic lights.

“These temporary traffic lights have broken down several times - staying on red in both directions, causing mayhem.”

Suffolk Highways has stated delays are ‘unlikely’ as a result, but Ms Pollard has said she will be relieved when the work is complete.

She added: “Traffic easily builds up all the way to Worlington Road because of the traffic lights in town, so when this is finished it will allow traffic to flow more easily.”
