Seven members of the Mildenhall Sea Cadets spent a day cleaning up the River Lark behind The Mallards care home on October 4.

The cadets were asked by the manager of The Mallards to help them clean out the river, to improve its flow and the view for the home’s residents and to encourage wildlife back to the waterway.

As they worked, the cadets were followed down the river by two appreciative swans.

Sara Kindler, who helped the cadets with their clean-up, believes the work has made a ‘huge difference’,

“We were there for over half a day and cleaned the river enough for the water to be flowing easily through,” she said.

“These two swans followed the cadets all the way down the river, which was really quite something.”
