After a quarter of a century out of the classroom, four Mildenhall school friends are attempting to reuinte their class with a charity fund-raising event.
Tim Milner, Lisa Snare, Sean Dodds and Becky Williams, all 41, attended Mildenhall Upper School, now Mildenhall College Academy, and left in 1990.
To mark the 25th anniversary of their departure, the group have planned an evening event at the Riverside Hotel on May 9.
All proceeds from the event will go towards four charities - the Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Squires Effect, which helps connect charities with fund-raisers, the British Heart Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Tim, who spearheaded the idea, said: “I took the organisation on board at the end of last year, then we started up this committee.
“We have had one get together since we left school so I thought, why don’t we go for a big reunion and see how many people we can get.”
After managing to find a full list of the class in a copy of the Newmarket Journal, the group began to appeal to old classmates on social media.
Unprecedented interest means 140 tickets have already been sold for the night, but Tim is keen to boost the numbers further.
“I hoped it would be popular,” the Lakenheath cricketer said.
“For the first three or four months things were very slow, but over the last six weeks we have really pushed it and ticket sales have started to boom.
“We’ve been putting the word out on social media, but it’s hard because not everyone has Twitter or Facebook.
“We’re still looking for anyone from the class of 1990, teachers included - we’re trying to branch out to them as well, as it would be nice to have a few of them there.”
Featuring live music from The Folk Collective, a disco and a hot buffet, the charity night will also include a raffle, for which prize donations are being accepted.
Tim has suggested that the group could organise more reunion events in the future if the upcoming night is successful.
“Hopefully we can have an event every four or five years after this and keep it going for a number of years to come,” he said.
