Mildenhall Business asks community to help find pickup ram-raiders

The owner of a Mildenhall business is appealing for help after ram-raiders smashed through one of its walls and stole £5,000 worth of equipment.

The incident happened just after midnight on Friday, May 31, at garden machinery retailers C W Kirk Lawnmowers, in Chiswick Avenue.

The theft saw a number of top-of-the-range chainsaws and Strimmers taken from the site after the raiders reversed a blue Ford Maverick pickup truck into the front wall of the building.

Company owner Charlie Kirk said: “We would like to urge anyone who has been offered any of the equipment to report it to Suffolk Constabulary.”

It is believed the thieves knew what they were looking for as they only took the more expensive items from the showroom.

As well as the estimated value of the equipment stolen, it is thought damage to the building is likely to cost around £40,000 on top of that.

Dian Warman, an administrator for the company, said: “Another vehicle was waiting for them and they loaded it up with the goods and went off.

“We think they have also caused structural damage to the building, but we are waiting for that to be assessed.”

Mr Kirk, owner of the business since 2018, said: “This is devastating, but I would like to reassure customers that it is business as usual and no customer equipment left with us has been taken in the raid.”

Suffolk Police said they were called to the scene at around 5.50am that morning, and found the pickup truck still on the premises and a big hole that the ram-raiders had left behind.

Officers have asked for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area, either late on the night of May 30 or early on May 31, or whohas any knowledge about the incident, to come forward.

Also, if anyone has been offered any gardening equipment recently, they should contact Suffolk Police on 101, quoting crime reference 37/30858/19.

Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers, which is 100 per cent anonymous, on 0800 555 111, or report what they know via their online form by going to www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
