The Mid Suffolk Light Railway at Brockford has steamed ahead to take the title of Suffolk Museum of the Year.
The volunteer run standard gauge railway has seen visitor numbers and takings up this year with ambitious plans for extending its line well underway.
The award was made at University Campus Suffolk with the attraction beating off competition from 40 other accredited museums in the county.
The Suffolk Museums Special Award went to the Suffolk Regiment Museum in Bury St Edmunds.
Known as The Middy, the Mid Suffolk Light Railway plans an exciting 2015 with steam trains operating every Bank Holiday and summer Sunday from May 24 to August 31.
Volunteers also aim to extend the footplate experience to include ‘Driver for a tenner’ with the full driver experience continuing at £125.
The line extension to Blacksmiths Green will more than double the length of the railway and discussions are underway with Mid Suffolk District Council.
