Mayor joins dance in Bury show-casing the strength of women
The Mayor of St Edmundsbury show-cased his footwork in a group dance to raise awareness of violence against women.
Cllr Patrick Chung joined about 30 people who braved the wind and rain for the One Billion Rising event, on Angel Hill on Saturday.
The five minute dance was led by the Multicultural Women’s Group (MWG) Bury St Edmunds and they repeated the routine three times.
The event was held worldwide over the weekend to highlight the strength of women and show support for those who are victims of violence and abuse.
Faith Stabler, one of the directors of MWG Bury, said: “The day was successful given the weather.
“Violence against women happens everywhere and people are not always keen to talk about it.
This shows the strength of character that 30 people were prepared to come out in awful conditions to highlight it.”
Among those in attendance were representatives from the Women’s Institute and the Bury St Edmunds Womens Aid Centre.
MWG Bury, which was set up about seven years ago, aims to welcome, befriend and offer a social support network to people of all nationalities
