A 20-year-old man will face trial for attempted rape following an attack in Bury St Edmunds last year.

Andu Nedelcu, 20, of Călineşti, Arges County, Romania, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday (March 4) where he pleaded guilty to sexual assault, causing a female to engage in sexual activity and assault in relation to an attack on a 25-year-old woman in the Shakers Lane area of Bury at around 10.30pm on May 11, 2015.

He denies a further charge of attempted rape for which he is excepted to stand trial in Ipswich on July 11.

Nedelcu was arrested by police in his home country on January 22 after Suffolk detectives secured a European arrest warrant.

He was brought back to the UK on February 4 and appeared in court the following day to be charged with the four offences.

He has been remanded in custody ahead of the trial.
