Man to appear in court following firearms incident in Stowmarket

A 22-year-old man will appear in court this morning charged with two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence after he was arrested in Stowmarket yesterday.

Leutrim Halili, of Bury Road, Stowmarket, was detained yesterday morning, Thursday December 10, after police, the dog unit and police helicopter were called to reports of a man with a gun in his bag at Danescourt Avenue.

The weapon was found to be a BB gun.

Nearby Abbots Hall Primary School was closed as a precaution during the incident.

Halili was detained to appear this morning at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court from 10am charged with offences relating to yesterday and on Saturday November 28.

He faces two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, three counts of assault by beating, one of common assault, criminal damage, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
