A quantity of heating oil was stolen from a tank at a property in The Street, Shimpling at about 10am on Monday December 7.

Police say a resident at the property saw a man standing near the oil tank who ran off when challenged.

If you noticed unusual activity or vehicles in the area, call Suffolk Police on 101 quoting 37/19841/15.

Suffolk and Norfolk Police advise heating oil tank owners to have the tank in a well overlooked position with lighting to make it less of a target.

They say security lights can help deter potential thieves and low level ‘dusk ‘til dawn’ lights close to the tank should, in most cases, provide sufficient light to illuminate any suspicious activity.

More crime prevention advice can is available from the police on 101.
