A 43-year-old man has been jailed today for a chemical spill in Creeting St Mary.

Kestutis Rakevicius, from Kaunas in Lithuania, was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment at Ipswich Crown Court today.

He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months until a re-test is taken.

Police were at the roundabout at the junction of the A14 and A140 at around 9.10am on Tuesday June 23, when they became aware of a curtain-sided lorry.

Seconds later a container fell from the vehicle as it drove into Kettle Lane and a hazardous liquid, a solution of the chemical Acrylamide, began to leak.

Officers stopped the vehicle and the road was closed while the incident was dealt with.

Rakevicius was arrested at the scene and charged on June 23 with careless driving and driving a vehicle carrying a dangerous insecure load.
