Man charged with theft from pensioner in Bury St Edmunds to appear in court this morning

A 22-year-old man has been charged with theft after a handbag was snatched from an elderly woman in Bury.

Stephen Pryce, of no fixed address is due before Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning, Wednesday June 17.

The charge of theft from the person of another relates to an incident that happened in Spring Lane on May 23.

An elderly woman was riding on a mobility scooter when a man approached her from behind and stole her handbag out of the front basket.

The offender then ran off towards Beetons Way.

A male member of the public on a bicycle, who witnessed the incident, then chased the offender and retrieved the bag.

An amount of cash and a mobile phone were missing when it was returned.
