Man charged with firearms offence at West Suffolk Hospital

A man has been charged with assisting a prisoner to escape and possession of a firearm following an incident at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds on 25 January 2012.

Garry Cowan, 43, currently from the Thamesmead area of London was charged this morning at a police station in the Metropolitan Police area and is due to appear at Camberwell Magistrates Court via video link today.

Andrew Farndon, 26, was arrested in Scotland after he escaped from prison custody on a visit to West Suffolk Hospital for an injury. He has appeared before the Ayr Sheriff’s Court charged with firearms and traffic offences. Four others including Cowan, appeared with him charged with offences of breeching Scottish law and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
