Police called to reports of a man with a hammer in Bury St Edmunds town centre




A man has been charged after reports of a man with a hammer in Bury St Edmunds town centre.

Officers were called shortly after 10.15pm on Friday and arrested John Rainey, 29, of no fixed abode, on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Rainey was charged on Saturday for possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

He appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was bailed to appear at court on August 29.
