Beck Row man jailed after crashing through barriers at Lakenheath Railway Station

A Beck Row man has been jailed for 56 months after smashing through a Lakenheath level crossing barrier at 100mph to escape police.

Marcus Williams, 47, of Harrow Road, was banned from driving when he led Suffolk Constabulary on a high speed chase on July 24 last year - which started when he did not stop for officers in Mildenhall.

He was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday (January 20) after pleading guilty to nine offences, including robbery, two counts of actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and three counts of criminal damage.

Police caught up with Williams after he sustained thousands of pounds worth of damage to the barrier near the little-used Lakenheath Railway Station.

Judge David Pugh sentenced him to 56 months in jail, as well as a 52 month driving ban, and ordering an extended driving retest.
