Long awaited play area will improve safety in Brandon housing estate

A woodland play area will provide a safe place for children to play in Brandon after gaining planning approval on Wednesday

The new play area will sit adjacent to The Glade Community Primary School bordering Yew Drive, Spruce Drive and Mounts Pit Lane.

Forest Heath District Cllr, Bill Bishop cheered when the play area gained approval.

Speaking to Forest Heath District Council’s planning committee he said: “We’ve been working on it for four years Yew Drive was created with no play area.

“This is a wonderful, wonderful asset not just to Yew Drive but to the whole area.”

The new play area will beset in and around woodland with two informal sections, one for older children and one for younger children .

Play equipment will include a cable runway, swings and climbing frames as well as range of equipment aimed at younger children.

Cllr Eddie Stewart said that the large number of children living on the housing estate currently played on and around a dangerous road.

He said: “Parents will be pleased to have their children contained in a safe area.”
