A SISTER on a surgical ward at West Suffolk Hospital is tackling the London Marathon – her first – in support of Prostate Cancer.

Lisa Patterson, from Drinkstone, watched her husband Philip complete last year’s and was so proud of his success decided she would tackle the 26-mile route this year.

The 42-year-old mum of two is also studying to become a counsellor to support people who receive life-changing news such as cancer. She is being supported by the hospital, which is paying for her training, and hopes to take up work in this field at the West Suffolk once qualified.

She completed the Great North Run in 2006 and raised £1,700 and began raising funds for Prostate Cancer after her father, David Atherton, from Great Thurlow, died at the age of 62 from the illness.

She said: “I’ve been running loads around Drinkstone and the hospital staff have been very supportive.”

Philip, who raised £3,000 for the charity last year, is hoping to run alongside Lisa.
