The Lions Club of Stowmarket and District handed out a whopping £15,400 in charity cheques last week.

A total of 12 charities were invited to Cedars Hotel in Stowmarket to talk about the vital work their organisations do in their community and to collect their giant cheques.

It was also a double celebration for the Lion’s Club President Kevin Parker and his wife Elizabeth, who celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary the same day.

Among the charities to benefit from the Lion’s fund-raising efforts were Mid Suffolk Citizens Advice Bureau, Suffolk Young Adult Carers, Eastgate Boxing Club, Suffolk Accident and Rescue Service, St Elizabeth Hospice,Myeloma UK, St Nicholas Hospice Care, the John Peel Centre, East Anglian Children’s Hospices and St John Ambulance.

The Lions Club of Stowmarket and District now had 50 members who raise money through a range of events.
