A man threw a knife at his partner while she was six months pregnant, a court has heard.

Aaron Markiewicz, 23, of Barr Drive, Lakenheath, was sentenced at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Monday after having pleaded guilty to assault by beating.

Prosecuting, Ian Devine said that Markiewicz returned from the pub ‘particularly intoxicated’ on November 6 and demanded his partner ‘got him something to eat’.

She ordered him a take-away but asked him to leave after he took the food and fell asleep, leaving the delivery driver at the door.

He became verbally abusive and picked up two steak knives, throwing one close to where she was standing.

In mitigation, David Stewart said Markiewicz expressed remorse and had not sought to minimise his involvement.

Markiewicz received a 12-month community order with supervision and a 10-day alcohol specified activity requirement, costs of £85 and a £60 victim surcharge.
