Giant dinosaur models were joined in the Arc shopping centre by free face painting and the chance for youngsters to try their hands at being archaeologists.

A large sandpit in Charter Square allowed families to dig for bones, fossils and prehistoric relics during a ‘dig and dust’ activity.

The Dinomania event was the first of the centre’s ‘Awesome August’ programme, which continues on Monday when Sid and Scrat from Ice Age will be in Charter Square from 12pm - 5pm.

There will be photo opportunities and the chance to buy snow cones.

It continues on August 20 with Safari Explorers, from 11am-3pm.
