A food company has announced the proposed closure of a roast chicken factory in Haughley with a loss of more than 500 jobs.
2 Sisters Food Group said the factory, on Haughley Park near Stowmarket, was an aging site not suitable for purpose economically or environmentally.
A 45 day consultation is due to take place to work out other options to the plant closing.
The factory employs 372 permanent staff, another 60 salaried staff and around 250 agency workers.
Olivier Goudineau, Divisional Managing Director, said: “We are totally committed to producing the highest quality food for consumers in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way.
“Sadly, Haughley Park is an ageing site with many challenges and it does not enable us to fulfil our commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
“Our immediate priority now is to have meaningful discussions with our colleagues during this consultation period to see if other solutions can be found.”
