FRIDAY, May 24 – MJQ: (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £15. Info: fleecejazz.org.uk) Excellent British virtuosi taking their stylistic cue from the classic sound of the Modern Jazz Quartet, featuring Jim Hart (vibraphone), Barry Green (piano), Matt Ridley (bass) and Steve Brown (drums).

SUNDAY, May 26 – ADAM GLASSER: (Cherry Tree, Knowl Green, 8pm, £8. Details: jazz-nights.com) Astonishing South African harmonica wizard with Simon Brown (piano), Bern Hodgkins (bass) and Roger Odell (drums), plus an introductory set from singer Larraine Odell. MELODIOUS THUNK (The Fox, Bury, 7.15pm, free) A quirky selection of jazz standards and obscurities, featuring Myke Clifford (tenor sax/flute), Chris Ingham (piano) and Mick Hutton (bass). ANDY BOWIE (Tram Shed, Cambridge, 8.30pm, free) Tenor saxophone-playing philosophy professor and the Pete Shepherd Trio present a connoisseur’s choice from the modern jazz repertoire, resident at a new venue.

TUESDAY, May 28 – SARAH ELLEN HUGHES: (The Cottage, Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich, 8.30pm, £10. Info: norwichjazzclub.co.uk) Award-winning ex-NYJO singer in one of her final gigs before emigrating to France. With Rick Simpson (piano), Tom Farmer (bass) and Darren Altman (drums).

WEDNESDAY, May 29 – LULO REINHARDT: (The Apex, Bury, 8pm, £16/£14) Exotic blend of gypsy swing and Latin jazz from the guitarist who is the great-nephew of the legendary Django Reinhardt. KAREN SHARP (Lakeside, Lyng, 8pm, £10. Details: lakeside-jazz.com) Ex-Humphrey Lyttelton saxophonist with a persuasive, lyrical style on both tenor and baritone, with Phil Brooke (guitar), Bern Hodgkins (bass) and Brian McAllister (drums). KARL HIRD (The Swan, Harleston,8.30pm, £7.50. Details: Stellajazz.com) Bessie Smith/Billie Holiday-style singer Stella Goodey has started a new monthly jazz session in Harleston, tonight featuring Australian saxophonist/clarinettist Hird plus Richard Smith (guitar), Mark Adams (bass), Keith Virley (drums) and Stella herself on vocals.

THURSDAY, may 30 –SOLE BAY JAZZ BAND: (Maltings Pavilion, Ditchingham, 8pm, free. Info: 01986 896143) Residency for established and popular Dixieland band, featuring Ray Simmons (trumpet), Tim Densham (clarinet/sax), Ron Hockett (clarinet/saxophone), Alan Cugnoni (banjo/guitar), Tony Jullings (bass) and Craig Hipperson (drums).

FRIDAY, May 31 – MARK CROOKS: (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £15. Details: fleecejazz.org.uk) Star of the John Wilson Orchestra and one of the best clarinettists in the UK, Crooks is joined by the top-drawer rhythm team of John Pearce (piano), Dave Green (bass) and Matt Home (drums).
