Friday, FEB 22: BOBBY WELLINS (Hunter Club, Bury, 8pm, £10/£6U21. Bookings: www.headhunterlive.org) A British legend, Wellins blends wit and beauty in equal measure and remains one of the most distinctive tenor saxophonists in all of jazz. With Chris Ingham (piano), Rev. Andrew Brown (bass) and Russ Morgan (drums). MARC CECIL QUINTET (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £15. Bookings: 01787 211865) Drummer of Latin Underground brings his exciting own group to Fleece Jazz, featuring Andrew Noble (piano), Paul Jayasinha (trumpet/flugelhorn), Mick Foster (baritone sax) and Rob Rickenberg (bass). JAZZ INC QUARTET (Three Horseshoes, Helions Bumpstead, 8pm, free. Info: 01440 730298) Dixieland jazz near Haverhill, featuring Norman Brown (reeds), Brian Butler (trombone), Johnny Wright (banjo) and Keith Humphrey (bass).

Saturday, FEB 23: NICK UNWIN TRIO (Mendham Village Hall, 8pm, £12. Details: 01379 855282) Atribute to Duke Ellington with pianist Unwin and Bern Hodgkins (bass) and Roger Odell (drums).

Sunday, FEB 24: SPIRIT OF DJANGO (The Fox, Bury, 7.15, free. Bookings 01284 705562) Swinging sounds inspired by the great gypsy jazz guitarist, with Louis Thorne (guitar), Ben Pringle (guitar/keyboard) and Paul Reynolds (bass). ANDY BOWIE (Clarendon Arms, Cambridge, 8.30, free) Tenor saxophone-playing philosophy professor and the Pete Shepherd Trio present a connoisseur’s choice from the modern jazz repertoire.

MonDAY, FEB 25: JAZZ JAM (The Cottage, Silver Road, Norwich, 8pm, free. Enquiries: brendan@jazzjam.org.uk) New venue for established and friendly jam session led by bassist Brendan Youngs.

TuesDAY, FEB 26: TIM THORNTON QUARTET (Oaklands Hotel, Norwich, 8.30, £10. Info: macjazznorwich@gmail.com) In-demand bassist Thornton brings his own fiery group to Norwich to promote New Kid, his debut album as leader. Featuring Dave O’Higgins (tenor sax), Grant Windsor (piano) and Chris Draper (drums).

WedNESDAY, FEB 27: JAMES GOODWIN (Lakeside, Lyng, 8pm, £10. Bookings 01328 863511) A fascinating one-man show from pianist Goodwin describes the development of the ragtime, jazz, blues and boogie-woogie styles, evoking the barrelhouses of Texas and Chicago with help of an atmospheric video backdrop as he goes.

ThurSDAY, FEB 28: MICHAEL SUTTON TRIO (The Fox, Finchingfield. Details: 01371 810151) Romantic, intimate piano jazz at a new monthly music event. SOLE BAY JAZZ BAND (Maltings Pavilion, Ditchingham, 8pm, free) Residency for established and popular Dixieland band, featuring Ray Simmons (trumpet), Tim Densham (clarinet/sax), Ron Hockett (clarinet/saxophone), Alan Cugnoni (banjo/guitar), Tony Jullings (bass) and Craig Hipperson (drums).

FriDAY, MAR 1: WILL BUTTERWORTH TRIO (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £15. Bookings: 01787 211865) Atmospheric, refreshingly restrained piano jazz with classical overtones led by rising star Butterworth with Henrik Jensen (bass) and Pete Ibbetson (drums).
