Fri 15 Feb – EMILIA MARTENSSON: (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £17. Bookings: 01787 211865) Sensitive, affecting young singer who is garnering much media praise for her ethereal, bewitching style heard on her album And So It Goes with Barry Greene (piano), a winning blend of mysterious originals and smart covers by Jacques Brel and James Taylor. Also featuring Julian Siegel (sax), Ben Davis (cello) and John Blease (drums).

Sun 17 Feb – NIGEL PRICE: (Cherry Tree, Knowle, 8pm, £8. Bookings: www.jazz-nights.com) Fabulous guitarist who swings and grooves in the classic Grant Green/George Benson style, with Simon Brown (piano), Bern Hodgkins (bass) and Roger Odell (drums), plus a set from singer Larraine Odell. VERAO (The Fox, Bury, 7.15, free. Bookings 01284 705562) Classics and original numbers in Latin-pop and bossa nova styles, featuring Helen Abbey (vocals), Dave Burluck (guitar), Matthew Keane (keyboards) and Alex Best (percussion). ANDY BOWIE (Clarendon Arms, Cambridge, 8.30, free) Tenor saxophone-playing philosophy professor and the Pete Shepherd Trio present a connoisseur’s choice from the modern jazz repertoire.

Mon 18 Feb – JAZZ JAM: (The Cottage, Silver Road, Norwich, 8pm, free. Enquiries to participate: brendan@jazzjam.org.uk) New venue for established and friendly jam session led by bassist Brendan Youngs. .

Tues 19 Feb –RENATO D’AIELLO QUARTET: (Oaklands Hotel, Norwich, 8.30, £10. Info: macjazznorwich@gmail.com) For the second week in a row, Norwich jazz club hosts a fiery Italian saxophone player. Last week it was Tommaso Starace, this it’s Renato D’Aiello. Featuring his own band, Ross Stanley (piano), Nicola Muresu (bass) and Enzo Zirilli (drums).

Wed 20 Feb – DIXIEMIX: (Lakeside, Lyng, 8pm, £10. Bookings 01328 863511) A home crowd gig for one of the most popular Dixieland-inspired bands of the region, playing tunes from their brand new album Please Form An Orderly Queue. Featuring Simon Nelson (cornet/vocals), Chris Wigley (trombone), Pete Oxborough (reeds), John Benson (bass/vocals), Kevin West (guitar/banjo) and Tony Wilkins (drums/vocals).

Thur 21 Feb – SOLE BAY JAZZ BAND: (Maltings Pavilion, Ditchingham, 8pm, free) Residency for established and popular Dixieland band, featuring Ray Simmons (trumpet), Tim Densham (clarinet/sax), Ron Hockett (clarinet/saxophone), Alan Cugnoni (banjo/guitar), Tony Jullings (bass) and Craig Hipperson (drums).

Fri 22 Feb – BOBBY WELLINS: (Hunter Club, Bury, 8pm, £10/£6U21. Bookings: www.headhunter
live.org) A British legend, Wellins blends wit and beauty in equal measure and remains one of the most distinctive tenor saxophonists in all of jazz. With Chris Ingham (piano), Rev. Andrew Brown (bass) and Russ Morgan (drums). JAZZ INC QUARTET (Three Horseshoes, Helions Bumpstead, 8pm, free. Info: 01440 730298) Dixieland jazz near Haverhill, featuring Norman Brown (reeds), Brian Butler (trombone), Johnny Wright (banjo) and Keith Humphrey (bass).
