A Mildenhall College teacher has been hailed as an inspiration by a student who nominated her for a prestigious award.
Jill Smith is one of twelve winners of the University of Oxford Inspirational Teachers Award after she was nominated by first year Oxford student, Natalie Fuller.
Mrs Smith said: “I was extremely surprised and moved when I heard that Natalie had nominated me for this award.
“There is no greater award for a teacher than one that comes from a student.”
Ms Fuller said she had nominated Mrs Smith, her A-level maths teacher, because she had helped her through a ‘daunting’ application process to Oxford.
“I know that Mrs Smith was a significant factor in my getting an offer from Oxford and getting the grades to get in.
“She helps every students to the best of her ability and will do anything she can to help the people in her class achieve the grades they need and get to the university of their choice,” she said.
The awards will be presented today.
