Inquest opens after ‘stabbing’

THE inquest into the death of a man found stabbed outside a house in Honington was opened and adjourned this week.

Police were called to Poplar Close in the early hours of March 16, following reports that a man had been stabbed and had collapsed outside a house.

Paramedics and police arrived to find a man with wounds to his body.

Leslie Metcalfe, who was 23, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds.

He was then transferred to specialist heart hospital, Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

It was there that Mr Metcalfe, from Bootle, Liverpool, was pronounced dead at about 10pm the following evening.

Police are treating his death as murder.

A 22-year-old woman from the Bury area was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. She is currently on police bail until Thursday, while the investigation into his death continues.

An inquest into his death opened and adjourned at Bury Police Station on Wednesday.

A full hearing will take place at a later date.
