Inquest opens into 77-year-old Ixworth man's death at sheltered flat

An inquest into the death of a 77-year-old man following a fire at his sheltered home in Ixworth was opened on Friday.

The body of Frank Smith was recovered by firefighters from a smoke-filled flat on the first floor of Blackbourne View, in Peddars Close, in the early hours of July 6.

Suffolk Coroner's Court, in Ipswich, heard how residential care staff found the door handle of Mr Smith's flat was hot and thick smoke was coming out.
