A TRADITIONAL musical ensemble from Indonesia is being housed at a school on Moreton Hall this term.
The gamelan, which features instruments including metallophones, xylophones, drums and gongs, is being used for music lessons at Abbots Green Primary School in the afternoons, with other schools invited to visit and make use of the arrangement at other times.
A spokeswoman for the school said: “The children are bowled over by it. When you see it, it’s quite impressive – the full set practically takes up an entire classroom.”
She added that housing the gamelan, provided by Suffolk county music service, had only been made possible by the school’s move to two form entry as two of four new classrooms are not yet needed.
