US AIRMEN and their families were joined by UK residents to celebrate Independence Day on July 4 with a carnival of all things American.

Approximately 30,000 people attended the celebrations at RAF Feltwell.

Throughout the day crowds, including airmen from RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath, were entertained by cheerleader demonstrations, a car and motorcycle show, carnival rides and a birds of prey demonstration.

The highlights of the celebration were a display by the Royal Air Force Red Arrows Aerobatic Team, which painted an American Flag in the sky, and a dramatic firework display.

Keith Beaumont, 48th Fighter Wing’s 4th July coordinator, said: “It is the only 4th July celebration in the UK open to the general public free of charge and is a long-running tradition throughout the East Anglia community heralding the special relationship between the United States and Great Britain.”
