I Wish, I Wish to bring joy to sick young children in Bury St Edmunds
A party entertainment company is preparing to bring seasonal joy to young patients at West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.
I wish, I Wish is a family-run Thetford and Mildenhall-based business which specialises in providing characters in costume for children’s parties and events.
On Tuesday, December 15, its actresses will volunteer their time free of charge to visit children staying on the hospital’s Rainbow Ward, with Mickey Mouse, Belle, Spiderman, a ‘peg leg’ pirate and Elsa and Anna set to make an appearance.
Mother-of-five Button Wilde said she was keen to do something special for the hospital, even before getting I Wish, I Wish off the ground last year.
She said: “They put Christmas trees up but being poorly is just awful and I can’t imagine how it is for the children so when we started up I wish, I Wish I knew we were going to be visiting West Suffolk.”
The 41-year-old spent Christmas in the hospital after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and says she has never forgotten the kindness staff showed by letting her daughters in for ‘bed bundles’, a family tradition.
She said: “It just meant so much. It really made such a difference to me. I can’t thank West Suffolk Hospital enough.”
Button and her daughters, Danielle and Demi O’Shea, will also visit the hospital’s neonatal unit to deliver blankets they have crocheted.
Danielle, whose daughter was cared for by the hospital’s neonatal team after being born prematurely, said: “We’re going to try to lift the Christmas spirit of the hospital.”
