Fancy dress costumes and maypole dancing were among the sights to greet visitors at Monday’s Southgate Community Fun Day.
The family-friendly event – the second to be organised by Southgate Community Partnership in conjunction with Hardwick Primary School – welcomed hundreds of visitors from Bury St Edmunds, with many coming from the town’s Hardwick, Nowton and Southgate communities.
Featuring performances by the Bury Starlets, Dancing Stars and Marrakesh Swing Band, other activities included maypole dancing, children’s races, a fancy dress competition, obstacle courses, inflatables, a climbing wall and laser quest, which proved fun for all the family.
Host team Hardwick took victory in the Year 1 six-a-side football tournament which provided entertainment throughout the day, pitting teams from eight local primary schools against each other.
Organiser Andy Abbott, who is also a partnership trustee and school governor, said: “There was a terrific atmosphere during all the matches and it was fantastic to watch such young boys and girls competing and enjoying the occasion.”
He added: “We were blessed with the weather for a second year and it was wonderful to see so many people meeting up and enjoying themselves.”
