West Suffolk Hospital has been given an environmental award for a green project that has reduced both energy costs and carbon emissions.
The Bury St Edmunds hospital received the East Anglian CIBSE Carbon reduction Award 2012 in recognition of a combined heat and power unit.
The unit generates two thirds of the hospital’s electricity and half of its heat.
This delivers a £150,000 saving in utility costs and a 1,800 ton reduction in C02.
Ian Stuchbury, estates manager for West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are very pleased to have been presented with this award in recognition of our efforts to reduce our carbon emissions and environmental impact.” *
