It will now cost up to £12.70 a day to park at West Suffolk Hospital after an increase in charges.

Prices have risen between 10p and 30p for hourly rates. The rear car parks remain free for up to 30 minutes, while all parks now cost £2.20 for one hour.

Prices then increase for every hour, up to £12.70 for five hours or more.

A weekly ticket costs £30.

The hospital has installed a number plate recognition system to replace barriers.

Families collecting death certificates will not have to pay for parking.

No changes have been made to concessions for carers, neo-natal patients, phototherapy patients and cardiac patients.

A statement read: “All the money is reinvested into our services and across a year this income is roughly equivalent to a full ward’s worth of nurses.”
