COLOURFUL fountains added to the attractions of Bury St Edmunds leading up to Christmas – but it was the colour of people’s money which will make a lasting impression.

For generous shoppers threw an impressive £700 of coins in the fountain, which is being donated to St Nicholas Hopice Care, arc shopping centre’s charity of the year. The festive fountain, spouting water in different colours, was brought to the town in association with the town centre business improvement organisation Bid4Bury.

arc shopping centre manager Paul Haynes said: “I thank shoppers who donated by throwing money in the fountain. I hope their wishes come true.

“Despite hard times, it’s great to see that Bury shoppers are generous and charitable towards good causes they care about.”Bid4Bury chief executive Mark Cordell said: “We were pleased to work with arc to provide the fountain.”
