A CHARITY benefited to the tune of £4,800 after a fund-raising bid was matched pound for pound by an online initiative.

St Nicholas Hopsice Care, in Bury St Edmunds, received donations ranging from £10 to £1,000 after informing supporters about the chance to double the money via the Localgiving.com March Match fund.

It is the only website in the country that allows community organisations too small to register with the Charity Commission to benefit from online fund-raising and GiftAid.

The Suffolk Foundation is managing Localgiving.com in the county.

Ben O’Hanlon, trusts and statutory funding officer, said: “This was a great opportunity for people to give to charity and see their money doubled knowing the hospice will spend the funds on providing vital services.”
