An air cadet from Thetford is celebrating after becoming one of the first from his squadron to pass a prestigious scholarship.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Tommy Lawrence, of the 1109 (Thetford) Air Cadets squadron, successfully completed his Flying Scholarship, provided by the Royal Air Force.

Flt Sgt Lawrence, a cadet for five years, underwent two weeks of intensive training at Tayside Aviation in Dundee which included 12 hours of flying training and an examination.

He intends to promote the programme, an opportunity which is offered to only a small number of cadets, to others in his squadron.
