WEST Suffolk Hospital’s catering service has received the full five stars for meeting the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.
The result follows a thorough inspection earlier this month by St Edmudsbury Borough Council.
The inspection covered all aspects of the hospital’s catering service, from inpatient meals and the Time Out staff restaurant to the Courtyard Cafe that is open to the public.
Stars are awarded as part of the national ‘Scores on the Doors’ scheme, which aims to improve standards of food safety by presenting inspection results to the public as a star rating.
The scheme takes into account procedures around hygiene, safety, structure and cleanliness, as well as food production management.
West Suffolk’s score shows an improvement on May last year, when the hospital received four stars.
Veronica Hall, catering manager at West Suffolk Hospital, said she was ‘delighted’ with the result.
“It reflects the importance that we place on all aspects of hygiene and safety and is a testament to the diligence shown by our staff around cleanliness and food management,” she said.
