A UNIT at West Suffolk Hospital, which is responsible for examining the insides of the body, has been awarded sought after national accreditation.
The endoscopy department has received the Joint Advisory Group certification, which lasts for five years and proves it is delivering safe and effective patient care with a commitment to staff training and development.
The hospital had to provide written evidence of policies and procedures, details on staffing and waiting times, copies of patient information leaflets and results of patient satisfaction surveys.
An independent assessment team visited the unit to see it in operation and interview staff.
Dr Dan Sharpstone, clinical lead for endoscopy, said: “The certification covers a wide range of quality indicators including staffing, education and training, patient experience, waiting times, decontamination and audits, so shows we are performing well across the board. Teamwork has enabled us to achieve this.”
