A HOSPITAL porter has been commended for his work at West Suffolk Hospital after being awarded a top prize.
Tony Walker, 52, of Rougham, was presented with the Michael Williams’ Porter of the Year shield and £125 in recognition of his service in the A&E department.
The prize, which is in its seventh year and is voted for by hospital staff, is in memory of Michael Williams, who spent a decade working as a porter at the hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.
Mr Walker, who won the prize in 2008 and recently a Shining Light award for the respect he shows patients and relatives, said: “I’m chuffed to bits I’ve won it again and I want to thank everyone who voted for me.”
Runners-up were Michael McLean and Brian Rosenthal, both of Bury.
The ceremony was hosted by Mr Williams’ widow, Lesley, a nurse and former director of nurse education at the hospital.
She was presented with a cake to celebrate her 50 years in nursing.
