Greene King boss Rooney Anand has been appointed a non executive director with the newly shaped board of Morrisons.

The appointment to the under-fire grocery business is one of several newly-appointed high profilers within the food industry to the board.

Mr Anand, chief executive officer for Greene King since 2005, becomes a senior independent director from January 1 next year.

He is credited with changing Greene King from a regional brewery and pub business to a branded pub, restaurant and hotel operator.

He said: “I am excited about joining the team at Morrisons, a company I have long admired. I look forward to working with the board to help to contribute to the company’s return to the forefront of the British supermarket industry.”

Morrison’s chairman Andrew Higginson, said: “Rooney’s experience in retail and in turning around the fortunes of a major retail business will be put to good use at Morrisons. His appointment completes the process of renewing and rebuilding the Board of Morrisons.
