RESIDENTS of Little Whelnetham invited their neighbours to come and admire their gardens last week.

The open garden event was organised by the Friends of Little Whelnetham Church to raise money for the church’s upkeep.

A dozen residents opened up their gardens for people to admire the results of their green-fingered expertise.

Organiser Elaine Overnell, from the Friend, said: “It was a very nice atmosphere, a very happy occasion. We had a lot of help with people baking cakes – there was a good community spirit.”

A display of classic cars was arranged in one of the gardens, along with a plant sale for those feeling inspired, while and a tea tent offering homemade cakes ensured that all visitors were kept refreshed.

The event raised £760.
