A GROUP of generous golfers have donated more than £3,800 to St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Former Stowmarket Golf Club captain Ivor Evans handed over a cheque for £3,817 on Tuesday.

Mr Evans organised a string of charity events to raise the money after choosing the Bury St Edmunds hospice as his charity for the year.

“I chose the hospice because my wife and I knew someone who had been in there.

“We have lived in the area for a long time now and we are aware the hospice obviously needs money continuously,” he said.

The club held quiz nights, raffles and a 1960s night to reach the total.

Sue Long, hospice community fund-raiser, said: “We’re so grateful to Ivor, Stowmarket Golf Club and all its members for every single penny raised. The hospice depends on donations such as this.”
